Our Story
Hi, I’m Jade – the face behind The Bright Stitch, a colourful little yarn shop with a big love for crochet.
My crafting journey started as a teen, learning alongside my great-grandma. I’ve always loved making things, especially the kind of creative, recycled crafts that let your imagination run wild. But it was during lockdown that I truly fell in love with crochet. As someone living with ADHD, anxiety, and chronic health conditions, I found the stillness and focus that crochet gave me was life-changing. It became more than a hobby — it became my peace. The moment I finished my first sushi-inspired crochet hood, I knew I was hooked for good.
The Bright Stitch was born after a whirlwind of craft shows, where I realised how hard it was for makers to find soft toy supplies — especially ones that were UKCA compliant. The feedback from customers was so encouraging that I decided to take the leap and open a shop. I had big pastel dreams — a kawaii-inspired, selfie-worthy yarn haven — and while I’ve had to scale that vision to fit a small space and an even smaller budget, the heart of it remains: joy, colour, and community.
My focus is crochet-forward (because let’s be honest, too many yarn shops treat crochet like a sidekick), and my product lines are made with makers in mind — colourful yarns, soft toy kits, and supplies that spark creativity. Everything is built with my neurodivergent brain in mind — from the batch-making process to the post-it notes and spreadsheets behind the scenes.
As well as running the shop, I still travel all over the country to attend comic cons and craft fairs, selling finished crochet creations and connecting with fellow makers and fans in person.
When you walk into The Bright Stitch, I want you to feel joy. I want you to feel seen, supported, and creatively inspired. Whether you're here to browse, chat, or stock up on squishy yarn, this space is for you.
Looking ahead, I dream of a bigger unit with a cosy yarn café, and I’m so excited about launching the Spicy Stitch Collective — a collaboration with two fellow neurospicy creatives, bringing you crochet-alongs, retreats, merch, and so much more.
